Jesus: Our Sewage Treatment Plant
You've just finished a 5k run in 90 degree F heat. Your team mates are waiting to see you and pull a chilled bottle of distilled water out of a cooler and hand it to you. You happily drink some.
Let's try this again. You've just finished a 5k run in 90 degree F heat. Your team mates are waiting for you and pull a chilled bottle of distilled water out of a cooler, unscrew the cap and add a tablespoon of raw sewage, then hand the bottle to you. You going to drink it now? I'm thinking you are not.
Metaphorically, the distilled water is Heaven and WE are the raw sewage. Heaven is God's home and is perfect. We are not perfect, we are filthy sinners deserving of eternal death. God's grace allows some of us to receive the gift of salvation. How is this possible considering filthy, evil sewage cannot exist in an environment of loving Godly perfection?
Jesus Christ is our sewage treatment plant and unless we are processed through him salvation is impossible. John 14:6 "No one comes to the Father except through the son." Period.
When looking at a turd, does it matter if one turd was made by eating expensive caviar and another one was made by eating McDoubles? No, they are both turds. They both need to be transformed into something better.
Every strike Jesus took with the whip was a step in our cleaning and treatment process. Again, imperfect filth simply cannot exist in an environment of perfection. Our salvation not only depends on being run through a sewage treatment plant, but this particular sewage treatment plant is the most expensive sewage treatment plant ever created. It was manufactured by the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The next time you are enjoying a cool, refreshing glass of pure water on a hot day, stop for a few seconds to ponder what the cost of your completely undeserved salvation really was.
